2010 Opportunities - 19 January 2010

Welcome to 2010 and what a year it will be for our industry! So many opportunities lie ahead of us and also lets not forget the challenges. We at Smart Connection Company are preparing for some big changes this year as well.
The turning of the New Year always encourages us to reflect and revisit those New Year’s resolutions from 12 months earlier. For me personally it was even more reflective; getting married and starting 2010 with a new family really made me look closely at the areas of schooling, health and general opportunity for the younger generation.

It made me start thinking, we have had two strategic reviews in 2009; the Preventative Health Task Force report and the Crawford Review. Let’s hope that the Rudd Government have the foresight to consider the ramifications of these reports and the potential long-term benefits that some of the suggested outcomes offer for our kids and the next generation. Rudd is on a crest of a wave at the moment, so let's hope he has the gumption and commitment to implement some of these actions for the long term..

The Federal and State Governments are investing heavily into training for the future, so we are also reviewing everything we are doing on training. The exciting news is that we are improving and developing our online training capabilities, with much of the Diploma of Management course now being able to be delivered online. We understand the benefits of e-learning and indeed the benefits of being able to offer flexible learning delivery whether that be in the classroom, online or on the job - and this is a major focus for us in 2010. We will be boosting the number of Diploma intakes this year as well offering new qualifications. We are also looking at specific qualifications linked to Exercise Referral schemes - the first in Australia. If the leaders in this area (UK and Canada) are anything to go by this significant initiative will be a key driver in ensuring exercise is finally taken seriously in the context of wider public health.
Expansion in training means we are also looking for new staff, (full time, part-time and contract trainers)

2010 for us will be about collaborations with peak bodies and other industry providers that we believe will allow us to address some of the challenges head on and make a ‘life-time’ difference. We hope you enjoy this months newsletter.
